GOOD DESIGN Awards, offered by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, is one of the longest-running and globally inclusive programs to recognize innovation in product and graphic design. Nine awards across four categories for 2020 demonstrate the power of consistent application of the nine design principles that guide the work of Newell Brands Design.

In the Children’s Products category, the Baby Jogger® City Home Collection was recognized for its attention to portability and ease of storage to make parenting easier. The designs for the highchair, rocker/bouncer, and playard emphasize comfort and safety.

The Office Products award winners include the X-Acto® Sharpener Product Line and the Paper Mate® Write Brother Pen, both of which make paperwork more pleasurable. The sharpeners and the ballpoint pens display an attention to detail in the user experience that recalls Senior Vice President, Design & Innovation, Nate Young’s aspiration: “Every surface on every product has to be designed, so why not do it in a world-class way?”

The Calphalon® Cool Touch Countertop Oven and the Oster® New York Collection of Kitchen Appliances were among the award recipients in the Kitchen + Appliances category. The Cool Touch Countertop Oven heats quickly to as much as 450 degrees, while remaining cool—and therefore safe—to the touch on the outside. The New York Collection applies Art Deco details, rich materials and finishes, and sophisticated color palettes to appliances that often reside on the countertop: pot and jug coffee kettles and toasters.

With the Mr. Coffee® All-in-One Pour Over Coffee Maker, the coffee-shop experience is available in any home. The appliance contains all of the components required for high-quality pour-over coffee (kettle, dripper, vessel, and scale) and provides guidance through the process.

The FoodSaver® Cordless Handheld Food Vacuum Sealer replaces much larger, cumbersome devices to make it readily possible to preserve food and reduce spoilage and waste. With a simple, intuitive design and quiet operation, it can seal up to 60 quarts on one 24-hour charge.

The Oster®/Sunbeam® Blender with Vacuum Technology takes air out of the blending process to conserve nutrients and preserve fresh appearance. With post-blend vacuum storage, the product makes it more convenient to eat healthfully.
